Warm this morning, and still for a while—but then the wind picked up, and the temperature began to drop. I raked leaves out back for a while (despite some lingering soreness from moving heavy boxes and furniture up and down stairs for a couple weeks), managing to get them into a pile, more or less, while others on the street used leaf-blowers.
By the time Jack and I got to Beech Hill at midday, the wind was blowing pretty good, unhinging leaves and scattering them all over the place. Oak leaves, mostly. And they were the only little things I saw fluttering and sailing over the November fields. Saw no birds at all. Heard nothing except the wind and the voices of some kids playing in the distance and the jingle of Jack’s chain nearby.
The wind died down later, and I heard the call of a neighborhood robin. Dark by 5 p.m. (DST).
(Hoping this soreness shuffles off to Buffalo soon. Not used to feeling pain just walking around.)
