Today turned out to be one of the busiest days in recent memory—my memory, I mean. I finally managed a “lunch” break very late and used it to hike with Jack, my dog, in raw air up a muddy, dim, blue-gray, bleak, shadowy hill. Despite the dearth of photo ops, I loved it. You feel alive on crappy days like this.

I love crappy days.
