Luminescence

Penobscot Bay, from Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 18 November 2014.

Penobscot Bay.

I barely had room to breathe today.

OK, that’s an unforgivable exaggeration. It was a busy one. Sort of sweetly busy, actually—and the air I did manage to breathe was sweet and cold. But again I had only a brief snipped of time to hike the hill with dog.

Chiaroscuro sky, as seen from Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 18 November 2014.

Chiaroscuro sky.

Still, it was mostly—or partly—clear. And sun rays were angling down through various crevices in the clouds. And with all that November beauty out there, who cares if there were no birds around? Didn’t see one, didn’t hear one…

…and then, as I was about to hop back into the pickup, a chickadee called, loud and clear, from a patch of small trees across the way.
