Yellow-rumped Warbler, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 18 October 2014.

Yellow-rumped Warbler.

Saturday. Overcast and breezy, then a little sun poked through—briefly, to warm the hillsides—and then back to a sort of wind-combed gray. Jack and I hit the hill along with a bunch of other folks (but, oddly, no other dogs). Many more folks than bird species, turned out, but still scores of Yellow-rumped Warblers.

Long view, from Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 18 October 2014.

Long view.

And still beautiful scenery in every direction.

Tonight, a quick, loud thundershower blew through, with two lightning strikes very near us prompting Jack to run into the front room ready to fight the invading army. As usually, he got over it in a hurry.

Bird Report is a (sometimes intermittent) record of the birds I encounter while hiking, see while driving, or spy outside my window. —Brian Willson
