Shrike in the snow

Northern Shrike.

Snowed today. Not hard, but fairly steadily. A bit of wind. Maybe eight inches by evening. On my hike with dog today, I thought I would go birdless—but then, through the snow, I saw a sentinel shrike in a treetop. Then another treetop. Then another, and another.

Just before we left, down by the road, I saw mourning doves and chickadees. Wonder if the shrike caught anything.
