Snow on the pussy willow

Monday, March 18th, 2013
Northern shrike, Beech Hill, Rockport, Maine, 18 March 2013.

Northern shrike.

Clear and nippy early today, hazy and nippy late. It being Monday, spent the day tied to my desk, pretty much. Got a lot done, then got out with Jack at about 5 for a quick Beech Hill hike, up and down.

Pussy willow, Beech Hill, Rockport, Maine, 18 March 2013.

Pussy willow.

Not as windy as yesterday—in fact, it was a lovely hike. Only a couple of bird species, but they included a northern shrike perched atop the little oak I’ve seen it on before (assuming it was the same bird). Couldn’t help but notice all the budding pussy willow and think of the big storm that’s forecast for tomorrow and marvel at the peculiar personalities of late-winter snows.
