Snowed for much of the night, apparently, although the snow had turned to rain by the time I looked out first thing. Maybe an inch of slushy snowfall remained on the soft places, although the roads were clear. I had a morning appointment in Thomaston. Pretty windy out. Saw a few town birds in the chilly precipitation.
Managed to get to Beech Hill earlier than yesterday. Spitting rain, and the winds carried a good chill. Jack and I headed up in a hurry, and after we turned onto the main ascent, he heard a pair of young hikers behind us, stopped suddenly, and tripped me up. I landed in a puddle of muddy slush, soaking the right side of me. Oh, well.
On up the slope. No sign of any bird.
Back near the parking lot after only about fifteen minutes, I heard the bright voice of a hairy woodpecker. Then came chickadees.
Then came our quick trip home, so I could change clothes.
