Buntings (Again)

Snow Bunting on the roof of Beech Nut, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 20 November 2022.
Snow Bunting on the roof of Beech Nut.

They might’ve been the same birds—or two of the three I saw yesterday. But again this nippy morning Snow Buntings were poking about in the shade near the west side of the hut. One appeared to be eating (drinking?) ice.

Otherwise, far fewer birds than yesterday—half as many species in fact. But never mind, it was an exhilarating day, what with the wind and the sky and a couple of little snow squalls. Met a birder/bird photographer friend at the summit who informed me that American Coots were back in Chickawaukie Lake, below. And I’m pretty sure I saw a raft of ’em down there using optics.

Didn’t dare count the coots, though. The buntings were fun enough.
