My Finch Neighbors

house finch (male)
House Finch (male).

Of the common back yard birds here in Salt Lake City, the familiar House Finch is possibly the commonest. Yes, there are lots of mapgies that rove in gangs. And we have a cute little collection of quail. But nearly always I can hear the note or call of a House Finch.

These guys are of course well-known to me from back East, where they were released a long time ago. But out here is where they belong. And they act like it. I like the little guys.

Bird Report is a (sometimes intermittent) record of the birds I encounter while hiking, see while driving, or spy outside my window. —Brian Willson
