Hummingbirds

Black-chinned Hummingbird (female), East Millcreek, Utah, 16 August 2019.
Black-chinned Hummingbird (female).

New hummingbirds out here in Mountain Time. Lots of Black-chinned Hummingbirds (which I recall from Texas) and one broad-tailed so far. The former seem ubiquitous in the neighborhood—hovering about twenty feet up for no apparent reason, checking the sunflowers and empty feeders, perching occasionally. Their little voices sound similar to the ruby-throats I’m used to.

These seem tamer, though. Or braver. More sure of themselves.

Love the little guys (and gals).

East Millcreek List
No mountain hike today, but here’s what I saw and/or heard.

1. House Finch
2. Black-billed Magpie
3. Eurasian Collared Dove
4. Lesser Goldfinch
5. Black-chinned Hummingbird
6. California Quail
