While at work at my desk—which now sits upstairs, before back-yard-facing window—I watched several birds flitting about in the hardwoods out there. Pairs of birds, mostly: Downy Woodpeckers, nuthatches, titmice. Also solo birds, like a jay and a flitty little Brown Creeper. And Gray Squirrels. A chipmunk.
The early sun gave way to a high overcast. Not a lot of wind. In our hike up the hill, dog and I encountered a Hairy Woodpecker and a furtive Savannah Sparrow. My legs achy worked pretty well up there today.
I sense improvement.
