Rained like crazy this morning—well, in waves. The weather radar showed a long line of showers marching north directly over our heads here. Eventually, the rain stopped, but it stayed dark and overcast, grew foggy and windy.
Didn’t get out until I hiked Beech Hill with Jack—Beech Hill, where a stiff south-southwest wind blew a thick fog swiftly up the slopes. (Wind + fog = wog?) What with the rushing wind and the minimal visibility, I didn’t expect to hear or see many birds at all; turns out I got a visual ID on most of the species on my list. Most dramatic of the sightings was the sudden appearance of five or six crows up at the summit. The birds must’ve been perched in the spruce up there, saw us ascending, and took flight, flapping in low, wind-blown arcs through the fog not far above us.
Wish I’d had my camera on.
