Mud season

Friday, March 21st, 2014
Mud, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 21 March 2014.

Mud.

First full spring day of the year, and right on cue we’ve got mud. Warmer temperatures, sun-soaked skies, howling winds, and mud. I took a spin over to Buttermilk Lane but didn’t see an owl. Swung by the airport, no owl. Saw a couple of turkey vultures at Weskeag Marsh.

The trail at Beech Hill Preserve was about half mud, half slushy snow.

Now I await the return of the American Woodcock.
