An inch or two of snow fell overnight. Light, fluffy stuff. This morning, in a flood of sunlight, I swept it away. Crows were flapping around, as usual. I heard chickadees out back—and a titmouse singing its spring love song. (Forgot to mention yesterday that I heard chickadees doing the same.) The rest of this frozen day I spent indoors attending to various desk task—until about 4 p.m., when Jack and I hopped in the truck to take a sunset hike up Beech Hill.
Little traffic on the roads. No traffic at all on the hill. In fact, dog and I were the only critters up there today—me in snowshoes, and Jack limping occasionally from snow stuck in his paws. Just us and the sky and the moon and the setting sun and the snow and the wind and the sea and the distant clouds over the islands.
It was a good hike. I’ll remember it for the lonely feel of the place and the glow in the southwest sky.
Tonight, bright Jupiter set long before the waxing moon. Orion and Sirius rising early. Temperatures dipping into the teens (F).
Beech Hill List
Beginning at 4 p.m., I hiked the open trail.
No birds seen or heard on the hill today.
