Half over

Saturday, February 1st, 2014
American crow, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 01 February 2014.

American crow.

Sun this morning—and warm. Above freezing warm. And still. Took my dog and hit the Beech Hill trail.

Morning bay, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 01 February 2014.

Morning bay.

Down by the road, chickadees and titmice were singing their spring love songs. I heard crows badgering a red-tailed hawk I saw just as we’d arrived—at least that’s my guess as to why they were hollering in that particular direction.

Clouds moved in late in the day, so I didn’t get to look for Mercury at sunset. Oh, well.

Seems like winter should be half over by now.

Bird Report is a (sometimes intermittent) record of the birds I encounter while hiking, see while driving, or spy outside my window. —Brian Willson
