Red Squirrel

In the eastern sunlight, over the span of an hour or more, a red squirrel excavated an oak-trunk hole this morning. A gray squirrel started things—saw one digging at this same spot yesterday—but the little red followed through with nearly antic fervor.

In Appleton at twilight, I listened to spring peepers for a time. You'll rarely hear a sweeter sound in nature—though a robin's evening report on the day comes close.

Bird Report is a discursive, intermittent record of what's outside my window in Rockport, Maine, USA (44°08'N latitude, 69°06'W longitude). —Brian Willson
