Cold and Calm

Black-capped Chickadee, Rockport, Maine, 29 December 2017.

Black-capped Chickadee.

Cold again—single digits (F) all day. Big difference, however: It was also calm. Jack and I had it easy on our morning hike (alone again up there). saw distant crows and distant flickers and nearby nuthatches and chickadees. My best photo, though, was a backyard chickadee.

Bird Report is a (sometimes intermittent) record of the birds I encounter while hiking, see while driving, or spy outside my window. —Brian Willson
