An eagle, unperturbed

White-throated Sparrow.

Below freezing first thing. Bright sun. Not much wind. Got a bunch of chores done early, then took a midday hike with dog.

Crow and eagle, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 31 October 2015.

Crow and eagle.

Several other folks hiking. Little birds poking about in the trees just up from the parking lot—including a White-throated Sparrow. Coming up along the open fields, I saw a big bird flying low over the upper field to our left, and soon the ever-present October crows erupted in sound, and eight or ten of them headed for the big bird. A young eagle. The eagle seemed unperturbed. It rose and circled away toward the southeast.

Back down in the trees near the parking lot, I watched a pair of kinglets for a little while. Hard to take photos of those flitting little suckers.

Later, en route back home, I had to stop the pickup to let a flock of about a dozen Wild Turkeys cross the road.

Hiding out upstairs for Halloween tonight, writing this post to you—whoever you are.
