A productive indoor day. Outdoors, through the window, I saw a little sun early, but clouds overspread this little chunk of earth, and the air felt cold and moist. Second straight freezing night last night.
Didn’t get to Beech Hill with dog until pretty late, but the usual roadside birds were active—along with a mourning dove I happened to see while pulling in the parking lot. Blue clouds had moved over, and the sun now hung low in a patch of haze. Near the gate, with met Joe, who manages things up there, and he and I chatted a a while. On the way up the first stretch I’d seen what looked like tiny white powder or flakes on the trail and so asked him if it had snowed and he said it had a little. Just a trace of the feet we shall soon see.
I didn’t think to look for the coots in the lake today, but this evening I had an email exchange with a friend who had seem them there today, so I missed that species. (He’d also seen an owl along the road very near my place just a week or two ago.)
Tonight, the full moon has been playing peek-a-boo behind slow-moving clouds. For some reason I feel content, just now, and hopeful for another good day tomorrow.
