 Hairy Woodpecker.
Got followed up the trail by a vocal Hairy Woodpecker today. Had two other woodpeckers on my list, as well—on an otherwise semi-foggy, lovely, warm, low-species morning.

 Black-throated Blue Warbler (female).
I love fall migration for its inevitable, unpredictable surprises. This lovely—truly lovely—morning I was surprised and delighted to encounter a female Black-throated Blue Warbler poking about for caterpillars. I couldn’t ID her in the field, being so obsessed with yoinking a photo, but it became clear on first glance at the pic later. Lovely bird.
 Yellow-rumped Warbler.
Yellow-rumps, flickers, and waxwings still. Catbirds and towhees. Sparrows. And a comely little warbler I rarely see.

 Waxwings and fly swarm.
Unseasonably warm again. Good hike. Many yellow-rumps. Another fly swarm in the spruce grove, attended by ’rumps and waxwings.
 Waxing crescent.
Tonight, a waxing crescent.
