American Goldfinch, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 15 January 2018.

American Goldfinch.

Back to cold, breezy weather. Winter as it should be. Being a holiday, Jack and I met a few other dog and human hikers on the hill. We also encountered several little resident bird species—among them  this perky American Goldfinch.

A Brief Recounting of Sunday Events

Camo dog, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 07 January 2018.

Camo dog.

Nine below (F) when first I checked, so Jack and I waited a few hours, hitting the hill about the time it warmed to zero. We were alone up there except for the wind, a couple chickadees, and a flicker—neither of which species I saw. Jack did work though: he carried a stick nearly all the way back down to the parking lot.

Driving home, we encountered a little flock of wild turkeys crossing the road. They took of before I could grab a photo, though.

A Fair Wind on the Hill

Wild Turkey, Rockport, Maine, 15 December 2017.

Wild Turkey.

Eleven degrees (F) when first I checked. Spied a little flock of turkeys skulking out back. Good-sized flock of starlings zipping around out front. No breeze at home to speak of.

European Starling, Rockport, Maine, 15 December 2017.

European Starling.

A fair wind on the hill, though. Dog and I made it up and down in a hurry.
