Alder Flycatcher

Alder Flycatcher, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 20 August 2017.

Alder Flycatcher.

The highlight of this morning’s hike came with the surprise appearance of a House Wren near the summit. But the portrait of the day belonged to a comely Alder Flycatcher.

Fly Hatch

Thursday, August 17th, 2017
Cedar Waxwing, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 17 August 2017.

Cedar Waxwing.

Scores of waxwings fluttered about the hill this morning, chasing flies. A wind blew, so the swarms floated diffusely, so the birds wheeled and hovered, flycatching. At the summit I spied a couple phoebes and heard the notes of a Least Flycatcher.

Solitary Monarch

Cedar Waxwing (juvie), Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 15 August 2017.

Cedar Waxwing (juvie).

Breaking in a new camera today, gift from Canon, whose service technicians no longer work on my former model. Didn’t make time enough to figure out all the gazillions of settings, so this morning’s photos are a bit meh—or would’ve been had a solitary Monarch not saved the day.
