The Antics of Yellow-rumps

Tuesday, October 17th, 2017
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 17 October 2017.

Yellow-rumped Warbler.

A chilly, bright, season-appropriate morning lured me slowly up the hill. Kinglets two, sparrow one, and yet more Yellow-rumped Warblers. They chipped and flitted and chased and veered, the yellow-rumps did. They were fun to watch awhile.

Yellow-rumped Warbler.

A road race that ended at Beech Nut happened this gray early morning, and I didn’t manage to list many birds early, so Jack and I returned this sunny afternoon to list a few more. As usual this fall, the numbers were mostly Yellow-rumped Warblers. ’Rumps were everywhere.

Northern Flicker, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 13 October 2017.

Northern Flicker.

Missed photographing the Northern Harrier that appeared out of nowhere (as they typically do) this morning on the hill. But I did manage a photo of a flicker by simply standing there for a while.
