Missed Chances

Sunday, November 5th, 2017
The bay today, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 05 November 2017.

The bay today.

On this nippy, windy, overcast morning—after a change back to Eastern Standard Time—I just missed: two photos of a vocal Pileated Woodpecker, a photo of a very near Golden-crowned Kinglet; a photo of a cruising Northern Harrier; a photo of a pair of trailside Snow Buntings.

A Rangy Skein

Monday, October 16th, 2017
Skein of geese, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 16 October 2017.

Skein of geese.

Felt like fall today for a change: gray, windy, chilly, temperature dipping throughout the day. Emphasizing this point was the rangy southbound skein of Canada Geese I saw at the summit of the hill—tipped off by their voices.

Northern Flicker.

Missed photographing the Northern Harrier that appeared out of nowhere (as they typically do) this morning on the hill. But I did manage a photo of a flicker by simply standing there for a while.
