“There he is,” I said to Jack upon catching site of our first-of-year kestrel. I’ve had my eye peeled for several days for this dependable April arrival.

Song Sparrow, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 07 April 2017.

Song Sparrow.

In a dream, just before awakening, I heard the voice of a Barred Owl. Twice. It was out there, I’m sure of it—out there after a rainy, thunder-showery night. Out there with the turkeys that were gobbling like crazy.

Mud on the hill. Also scores of robins, a Killdeer, and a raven.
