The rump of a Yellow-rumped Warbler.

A stout south wind today did not much aid migration, and I had few birds on my list. In fact, I saw only yellow-rumps on my hike with Jack. (Heard the others.) But what a lovely fall day.

The Antics of Yellow-rumps

Yellow-rumped Warbler, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 17 October 2017.

Yellow-rumped Warbler.

A chilly, bright, season-appropriate morning lured me slowly up the hill. Kinglets two, sparrow one, and yet more Yellow-rumped Warblers. They chipped and flitted and chased and veered, the yellow-rumps did. They were fun to watch awhile.
