White-breasted Nuthatch, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 06 December 2017.

White-breasted Nuthatch.

Big rains overnight left the trail a bit muddy this morning, but that didn’t bother Jack, the birds, or me. Little birds were poking about in the trees encircling the parking lot, and crows were circling the summit. The temperature neared 50 degrees (F)—but then started to dip come evening, when a bright spattering of stars came out.

I can dig a good spattering of stars.
